Privacy policy
This page explains, in plain language, what happens to your data when you use this site. The short version: there's no account to create, the letters you type into the solver never leave your browser, and the only thing this site optionally stores is a small amount of anonymous usage data to understand whether it's working well.
The Spelling Bee solver itself
The center letter and outer letters you type into the solver are matched against the word list entirely inside your own browser, using JavaScript that runs on your device. Nothing you type into either letter field is ever sent to a server, logged, or stored anywhere outside your own browser. The word list file the tool checks against is a static, public file (see the word list page) that gets downloaded once you start typing; downloading that file doesn't transmit anything about what letters you've entered, it's a one-way, generic file request identical for every visitor.
Local storage, used to remember your last puzzle
If your browser supports it and hasn't had it disabled, this site uses your browser's built-in local storage (not cookies) to remember the last set of letters you typed in, purely so the puzzle is still there if you reload the page or come back later. This data stays on your own device; it is never transmitted anywhere, and it's not accessible to any other website. It's also used to remember whether you've already voted on the small feedback widget under the tool, and which light/dark theme you last chose. You can clear all of it at any time using your browser's own settings (usually under "Clear browsing data" or "Site settings"), or by clicking "Reset letters" on the solver, which clears the saved puzzle specifically.
Anonymous analytics
This site may use a privacy-focused web analytics service to understand how many people visit and which pages are used, purely in aggregate. This kind of analytics does not use tracking cookies, does not build an individual profile of you across visits, and does not sell or share data with advertisers. It exists only to answer basic questions like "is this tool actually being used" and "which page needs more work", not to track any individual visitor's behavior.
The feedback widget
Underneath the solver and the other tool pages, there's a small, optional 👍 / 👎 feedback control. Clicking it sends a single anonymous signal (just "helpful" or "not helpful" plus which page it was clicked on) with no cookie, no IP address logging, and no fingerprinting of any kind. If you'd rather send an actual message instead of a vote, the "Send feedback" link opens your own email client addressed to this site's contact address; whatever you choose to write and send is between you and that inbox, handled like any other email.
No accounts, no sign-up, no third-party ads
There is no account system on this site, no sign-up form, and no password anywhere, so there's no user database to worry about because none exists. As of this writing, the site does not run third-party advertising, which means no ad-network tracking pixels or third-party ad cookies are present either. If that ever changes, this page will be updated to reflect it honestly, along with what data any such network would collect.
Your choices
You can use this entire site, including the full solver, with local storage and analytics both disabled in your browser; the only difference is that your letters won't be remembered between visits and the site won't know its own usage numbers, but the actual word-matching functionality is unaffected either way. Most browsers let you block local storage and analytics scripts on a per-site basis without needing any extension.
Data related to hosting and delivery
Like essentially every website, the underlying network and hosting infrastructure that delivers these pages to your browser processes some technical information automatically as part of normal web traffic, things like your IP address and browser type, purely to route the request and defend against abuse such as automated scraping or denial-of-service traffic. This is standard infrastructure-level handling common to nearly every site on the internet, not a feature specific to this tool, and it is separate from and unrelated to the aggregate analytics described above. This site itself does not read, log, or otherwise use that infrastructure-level data for any purpose beyond what's needed to serve the page to you.
Changes to this policy
If anything about how this site handles data meaningfully changes, whether that's adding a new feature, changing the analytics approach, or introducing advertising, this page will be updated to describe the change honestly rather than leaving outdated claims in place. There's no dated changelog to check separately; this page always reflects the current, actual behavior of the site as of whenever it was last edited.
